FAQ'S

Most common questions and answers

Are the charge points OZEV approved?

Yes. Our charge points are OZEV approved.

How do I operate the charge point?

You have two or three options:

  1. Plug and Go. Your vehicle will start to charge as soon as you plug in. This is only recommended for secure locations such as inside a garage where only you can access the charge point.
  2. Free App. Our app allows you to start and stop charging, schedule charging hours for off-peak tariff as well as monitor your usage and cost. You can also add new users to allow them access to your charge point.
  3. RFID card* only applies to RFID versions. Use the RFID card to start and stop charging by tapping the charger, it’s that simple.
Do I need an internet connection?

In most cases the answer is yes. It is important to keep the firmware updated, which happens automatically when your charger has an internet connection. It also enables you to use the free App to operate the charger and monitor your usage and costs.

Do I need WI-FI, LAN or 4G to connect?

Every Project EV charge point is WiFi enabled and comes with and Ethernet LAN port as standard. Ethernet cable provides the most stable connection but WiFi is also good if you have a good signal back to the router. Use your phone to check the signal where you want to install the charger. If you have at least 2 bars, it should be suitable for WiFi connection. We also provide 4G versions for sites without internet access. You can provide your own data SIM card or we can provide a 5 year 4G data SIM.

Does the charge point need to be wall or post mounted?

Our smaller charge points can be wall or post mounted. We can provide a mounting post, which can mount a single charger or two chargers back to back. Larger pedestal chargers are free-standing.

What is dynamic load balancing?

Dynamic load balancing protects your incoming supply. It ensures that you don’t exceed the capacity of your incoming supply fuse rating. The charger reacts to alter the charge if necessary to ensure you don’t go over your limit and cause a power outage. This requires set-up on installation and a CT clamp or energy meter.

Should I have a tethered or untethered unit?

Cable lock is unique to the Project EV range of untethered EV charge points. It’s the best of both worlds as it allows the user to lock their gun in the charge point, making it tethered for convenience with the ability to unlock for safety and security when required and select the cable length they need.

Can the charger's output be reduced?

Yes. You can set the output power limit on every Project EV charger in the App or via the Laptop interface. This is particularly useful for sites with multiple charge points using a limited supply.

CHARGE YOUR CAR WITH YOUR SOLAR

Solar export control works by utilising the exported energy produced by your solar PV panels, measuring the load in the property and sending the free unused power to the electric vehicle. This power would normally be exported to the grid and potentially wasted, however, diverting this unused power could result in charging your car for free.

Electric Vehicles could double your existing electricity bills, this is dependant on your mileage, there are multiple ways of reducing these costs with off-peak charging and installation of solar panels. A typical solar system rated at 4kw will provide approximately 3000Kwh which is enough power to charge most vehicles to 50%.

Drive up to 10000 miles. Project EV chargers have the ability to charge a vehicle with any unused exported power which would normally flow back to the grid by analysing the exact amount of unused power and charging the vehicle direct from the solar panels.

This gives all Project EV customers the opportunity to minimise their costs of charging. Project EV has a completely free design service to explore the benefits of solar, ensuring every electric vehicle purchaser has the ability to take advantage of charging their vehicle in the most economical way.
