TS4-X-O vs TS4-A-O: Which Tigo Optimiser is Right for Your Next Install and Why?

Selecting the right solar panel optimiser is crucial for system performance, safety, and long-term reliability.

Tigo’s TS4-A-O optimiser has earned its reputation as a trusted choice for installers worldwide, delivering module-level monitoring, optimisation, and rapid shutdown in residential and commercial projects.

Yet, with solar modules now exceeding 700W, compatibility and future-proofing have become essential. The TS4-X-O is Tigo’s next-generation optimiser, purpose-built to meet the demands of today’s high-power panels.

In this article, we’ll outline the key differences between the TS4-A-O and TS4-X-O, so you can determine which optimiser is the right fit for your next solar installation.

When to Use Tigo TS4-X-O Optimiser

The TS4-X-O delivers the best results when module specifications push beyond the limits of standard optimisers. Choose it when your installations involve:

  • High-power modules (700–800W) – for example, the 710W (PLM-710DH2N-132) ensuring full power output without restriction.
  • High-current modules (even for certain lower Wp modules) – as modules get bigger, depending on their configuration, they may still exceed current ratings of the TS4-A-O – even some lower-Wp modules, such as the 620W (PLM-620DH8NH-132) can exceed the TS4-A-O’s current rating (15.19A Imp vs 15A limit). The TS4-X-O supports up to 20A Imp and 25A Isc.
  • Challenging site conditions – including higher ambient temperatures or high-altitude sites (up to 3000m)
  • Support for power-line communication (PLC) – The TS4-X-O uses Multi-Factor Rapid Shutdown (MFRS) with both wireless and PLC communication for added safety.

By choosing the TS4-X-O for residential or commercial projects, you prevent power bottlenecks and ensure your optimiser keeps pace with today’s high-performance solar panels.

When the TS4-A-O is Still a Great Fit

The TS4-A-O continues to serve as a reliable, cost=effective optimiser for standard PV projects. Use it when:

  • Modules fall under 15A Imp / 20A Isc – ensuring full compatibility without exceeding limits.
  • You don’t require PLC communication (only wireless using TAP/CCA)

Installers still rely on TS4-A-O for mainstream systems thanks to its proven performance long-standing track record in the field.

Final Take

The TS4-X-O doesn’t replace the TS4-A-O – it expands your toolbox. As demand for larger, higher-power modules grows, the TS4-X-O ensures your MLPE keeps pace.

Both optimisers deliver:

  • Module-level optimisation for maximum energy yield
  • Full monitoring through Tigo’s Energy Intelligence platform, with exclusive Reclaimed Energy insights that quantify real optimisation gains
  • Certified rapid shutdown compliant with US standards
  • Seamless inverter compatibility across more than 50 brands
  • 25-year warranty for long-term peace of mind
