Our Partnership With White Van Plan

We are very proud to support Michael and Verity (aka White Van Plan) with their DIY converted LWB Fiat Ducato. As bloggers, influencers and travellers, White Van Plan use their van as their mobile home, and they spent the second half of 2020 travelling 11,000 miles through 15 countries!

Solar Panels Fit for Life on the Road

White Van Plan got in touch with us earlier this year to ask for our advice on which solar panels would best suit their life on the road.

Michael and Verity, an architect and artist from London, both live and work remotely full time in the van, meaning a significant amount of electricity is required for their daily needs. However, as they travel from place to place, strong sunlight isn’t always a given.

In the initial planning stage for the van’s conversion, the power usage needs were underestimated, and Michael and Verity found themselves regularly short of power during the winter months.

They needed a solution that would provide them with all of their energy needs – 365 days a year, in both fine and foul weather.

We were delighted to supply White Van Plan with two of our Perlight 320w Mono Solar panels. Having converted their own van over the course of a year (whilst working full time!), Michael and Verity had no problem installing the panels, using a Unistrut roof rack, and connecting them to a solar charge controller.

Catering for a Heavy Power Demand

We are so thrilled with White Van Plan’s feedback, which is a testament to the exceptional quality and design of Perlight panels.

Having previously used a 200w set-up, the new 640w gives them plenty of power, and they need not worry about finding the next charging point. Our panels have been up to the task in all weathers and conditions thrown at them!

With daily laptop charging and a power-heavy water heater to fuel, the panels, which are connected to a B2B charger, easily provide the couple with all the energy they need. They said:

“Being able to work fully charged wherever we fancy really is the best. Even on cloudy and rainy days in Scotland, the panels have provided the power!”

We were glad to be able to provide a solution for them that is fit for purpose all year round and has extra capacity too!

The van continues to develop, with a water filter pump now fitted to provide fresh water wherever the couple find themselves. We continue to stay in touch with Michael and Verity and follow their developments and adventures.
