TS4-X-O vs TS4-A-O: Which Tigo Optimiser is Right for Your Next Install and Why?

Tigo’s TS4-A-O has become a trusted go-to optimiser for installers worldwide, enabling module-level monitoring, optimisation, and rapid shutdown. But as PV module power continues its relentless climb, with large-format commercial panels now exceeding 700W, installers need an optimiser that can keep up. Enter the TS4-X-O: a more powerful solution purpose-built for the latest high-performance solar modules.

Let’s break down the key differences and explore when it makes sense to choose each model.

When to Use the TS4-X-O

Choose the TS4-X-O when your project includes:

  • High-power modules (700–800W), such as 710W (PLM-710DH2N-132) to ensure the module power output is not limited.
  • High-current modules (even for certain lower Wp modules) As modules get bigger, depending on their configuration, they may still exceed current ratings of the TS4-A-O, even if they are under the max power output of the optimisers, such as the 620W (PLM-620DH8NH-132) which is within the maximum power output of the A-O, yet has an Imp of 15.19A, exceeding the A-O’s limit, whereas the TS4-X-O allows up to 20A Imp and 25A Isc.
  • Higher ambient temperatures or high-altitude sites (up to 3000m)
  • Support for power-line communication (PLC) via Tigo RSS transmitter

The TS4-X-O is ideal for both residential and commercial systems pushing the edge of module specs – helping avoid power bottlenecks and ensuring optimisers aren’t the weak point in the system design.

When the TS4-A-O is Still a Great Fit

For most standard installations, the TS4-A-O remains an excellent and cost-effective option. Use it when:

  • Your modules are under 15A Imp / 20A Isc
  • You don’t require PLC communication (only wireless using TAP/CCA)

It’s still perfect for mainstream residential installs and has a long track record of field-proven reliability.

Final Take

The TS4-X-O doesn’t replace the TS4-A-O – it expands your toolbox. With growing demand for larger, higher-power modules, the TS4-X-O ensures that your MLPE can keep up.

Both models deliver:

  • Module-level optimisation
  • Full monitoring through Tigo’s Energy Intelligence platform
  • Certified rapid shutdown (to US standards)
  • Seamless compatibility with the most common inverter brands (over 50)
  • 25-year warranty
